We are looking forward to our next event on Thursday 20th September, held at Happy’s training centre – Creating Happy, Productive Social Enterprises.
We are working with E3M, an organisation that supports leaders from UK social enterprises, providing expertise and sharing knowledge about success for social enterprise growth. Together, we have developed this new one-day seminar, Creating, Happy Productive Social Enterprises, to bring the ideas of self-managing, high-trust teams.
At this exclusive, one-off event, you will hear from some of the leaders in the social enterprise sector, including Jonathan Bland and June O’Sullivan MBE. You will also hear from Brendan O’Keefe, Liz Mouland and Scott Darraugh, who have created happy, productive workplaces in social enterprises – and learn from their experiences. Henry Stewart, Chief Happiness Officer at Happy, will speak about happy workplaces and how to create a environment of trust and autonomy that creates great results.
June O’Sullivan MBE
June O’Sullivan MBE is the Chief Executive of London Early Years Foundation (LEYF). LEYF is the UK’s leading childcare charity and social enterprise, running 37 nurseries across 11 London boroughs. As creator and CEO since 2006, June continues to break new ground in the development of LEYF’s scalable social business model and is a tireless campaigner, looking for new ways to influence policy and make society a better place for all children and their families.
June previously spoke at Happy’s 2016 Transforming the Public Sector Conference, with an inspiring and entertaining talk. She drew on experiences from setting up and running her own social enterprise. Some of her advice included recruiting for attitude and investing in her team with training and promoting from within the organisation. You can watch a clip from her talk below.
At her talk at Creating Happy, Productive Social Enterprises next week, June will cover the importance of clear governance, timely decisions, open conversations and keeping staff loyal during difficult times – as well as the ability to describe issues in line with business KPIs in order to develop a meaningful and relevant turnaround plan.
Brendan O’Keefe is the Managing Director of Epic CIC, the UK’s first youth service mutual launched in January 2014. Brendan is a Cabinet Office Mutuals Ambassador and advises local authorities throughout the country on the mutualisation of services. He has hands on experience of leading a successful public sector spin out. Brendan is driven by the notion that supporting young people to make a successful transition to responsible and fulfilling adulthood is one of the most important duties of any modern day society.
Brendan has spoken at several of Happy’s conferences over the years, with the latest being the 2017 Creating Happy Workplaces in the Public Sector Conference. In this clip below, Brendan explains some of the difficulties with implementing the principles of the Happy Manifesto and creating a new culture based on autonomy, trust and freedom.
In his talk at Creating Happy, Productive Social Enterprises next week, Brendan will share his experience of working with staff at Epic CIC to create a happy workplace during the four years since EPIC spun out from Kensington and Chelsea Council.
